In the late 90s, inspired by the energy of West Coast icons like Barry Weaver, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Mark Farina, Halo & Hipp-E, he dove in headfirst. He started where so many legends did: with two Technics 1200s and that ubiquitous blue Numark. In those early days, he was “Funk Sean,” quickly becoming a Sacramento underground and house party favorite for his funky house sets.

But as the scene evolved, so did Sean. A few years in, he fell for the depth and drive of underground techno, a shift that saw a morph from “Funk Sean” into Funksion. It wasn’t just a name change; it was a commitment to a deeper, more technical sound. Over 25 years later, he’s a cornerstone of the Sacramento house and techno community, recognized by those in the know as a DJ who’s as good as it gets.

Today, Sean brings that veteran expertise to the digital age, hosting regular livestreams on his YouTube and Twitch channels. As a co-founder of Phuture Global Radio, he remains a dedicated champion of proper house and techno, ensuring the underground spirit he fell in love with in the 90s continues to thrive without the formulaic cheese of the modern mainstream.
